Going From a 2D DRAWING to 3D Model
Once a part has been identified for printing, a digital model (i.e. CAD file) of the part needs to be created to load into the printer.
Our Design Team Can Create a Digital Model for You
This can be done in one of two ways:
- We can use 2D drawings or sketches of the part to build a 3D model
- You can send us the original part and we’ll scan it to create a 3D mode
Transition to Digital Manufacturing
The digital model can be saved in various formats, including:- IGES/IGS files
- STEP/STP files
- STL files
- OBJ files
How Long Does 3D Part Digitalisation Take?
It depends on the amount of information provided to our designers and the complexity of the part, but we typically provide our customers with a 3D model in 1-2 days.
What Happens Next?
Once the 3D part is digitalised, it’s ready for printing.
But to really benefit from the advantages of 3D printing, we recommend a design optimization step to further improve the performance and manufacturability of the part.
